The national chairman of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has addressed growing questions over the delayed screening of several prominent governors within the party.

Speaking on the matter, Yilwatda said the affected governors had requested to be excused due to other pressing commitments.

“The Governor of Kwara State said he has issues to attend to, so we excused him. The Governor of Ebonyi State said he has issues to attend to, so we excused him. The Governor of Rivers State said he has issues to attend to, so we excused him,” he said.

The explanation comes amid heightened political speculation surrounding the absence of Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, and Francis Nwifuru from the party’s ongoing screening process.

Political observers say the delay has fuelled intrigue within the APC, particularly at a time when internal alignments and loyalty battles continue to shape the ruling party’s power dynamics ahead of future political contests.
