China has announced plans to dispatch its special envoy for Middle East affairs to help reduce escalating tensions in the region following recent military strikes involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing would continue engaging all parties involved in the conflict to promote dialogue and stability.
She said China would maintain communication with the concerned parties, intensify mediation efforts and work toward building consensus to ease tensions in the region.
Mao made the remarks while responding to questions about heightened regional tensions following reports of military strikes against Iran by the United States and Israel.
The spokesperson announced that Zhai Jun, China’s Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs, would soon travel to the region to encourage dialogue and support diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation.
According to Mao, China remains committed to engaging all sides and encouraging restraint while supporting international initiatives to stabilise the Middle East through peaceful and diplomatic means.
