In a robust rebuttal to swirling speculation, former Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has categorically dismissed claims of a planned defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Branding the viral social media reports as “utterly baseless” and “malicious,” Ambode reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

The controversy erupted over the weekend when a widely circulated online post alleged that Ambode was poised to abandon the APC and join an ADC-led coalition to contest the 2027 polls. In a swift response, Seyi Bamigbade, Director General of the Tinubu-Ambode Support Group, issued a statement condemning the rumours as “deliberate misinformation” orchestrated by “political opportunists” intent on sowing discord.

“We unequivocally denounce this fabricated narrative,” Bamigbade declared. “His Excellency, Mr. Ambode, remains wholly dedicated to the APC and President Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria. Suggestions of any engagement with the ADC or other political entities are entirely fictitious and should be disregarded.”

Bamigbade urged those peddling the “mischievous falsehoods” to pursue more honourable endeavours and called on Lagosians and Nigerians to focus on constructive dialogue that advances the state and nation. He expressed confidence that the public would see through the “politically motivated propaganda” and continue to support Ambode’s unwavering allegiance to the APC’s transformative agenda.
