In a dramatic dawn swoop, operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) descended on the prestigious Green Legacy Hotel, nestled within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, apprehending several young revellers suspected of cybercrime during a lively poolside bash. The audacious operation, executed by the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Command in the early hours of Sunday, sent shockwaves through the venue, with gunfire echoing and partygoers fleeing in disarray.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of pandemonium as the unannounced raid unfolded, catching guests off guard. Social media footage captured the chaos, showing startled attendees scattering while EFCC officers seized over 20 high-end vehicles and other valuables. The high-stakes bust follows hot on the heels of another EFCC operation by the Ibadan Zonal Directorate, which targeted K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro, netting 55 suspects, including one allegedly armed with two locally made pistols.
A social media user, A. Ayomide, shared a gripping account of his narrow escape on X: “I left home after midnight for OOPL, but the crowd was overwhelming, and the vibe felt off. My mate and I stayed in the car park and left around 1:30 AM. Barely 20 minutes after reaching home, I got calls about the EFCC storming the place!”
Vitalis Ortese, Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, confirmed the incident but remained tight-lipped, stating, “Yes, there was an incident this morning. We’re looking into it and will provide further details.” Meanwhile, Ayo Oyewole, spokesperson for the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Command, said he was unaware of the operation but pledged to investigate.
