ABUJA — The office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, located in suite 2.05 of the Senate wing, has been unsealed by the Sergeant at Arms of the National Assembly and a joint team of security personnel.

The action grants the suspended Senator access to her office and the National Assembly premises.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months by the Senate for alleged breaches of its standing rules, a decision that drew criticism from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Afenifere, both of which called for her reinstatement.

The NLC had described the Senate’s action as “unfair, undemocratic, and a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s democracy.”

This latest development follows a court ruling that deemed the suspension “excessive and unconstitutional.” Despite the ruling, the Senate had previously stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan could not resume her duties without a fresh resolution or a definitive court order.

With her office now accessible, the move potentially paves the way for the Senator to resume her legislative duties. However, the final resolution of her case hinges on further court proceedings. Her lawyers have consistently argued that she is not a flight risk and is innocent until proven guilty.
