Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has cautioned Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta about the club’s rotation strategy between the Premier League and the Champions League, saying it could have a negative mental impact on players if not managed carefully.
“There is nothing wrong with what Arsenal are proposing,” Aguero told Football London. “Pep also tends to make those changes and play some players in the Premier League and others in the Champions League. He did it with Kompany, Otamendi, Bernardo Silva, Gundogan, Mahrez, Sterling and Sane at a point.”
Aguero said Arteta’s approach mirrors Pep Guardiola’s but stressed a key caveat. “Mikel has an idea that is very similar to Pep’s style. The problem is that sometimes players are in good form and making those changes can affect them mentally. But if it is managed properly, it’s a perfectly reasonable approach.”
His comments come as Arsenal juggle commitments in both domestic and European competitions and weigh how to balance squad minutes while maintaining performance levels.
