Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of making another major move in the summer transfer market, with Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze emerging as a top target for Enzo Maresca’s side. However, the Blues are holding back on activating the £65 million release clause in the 27-year-old’s contract until they confirm the player’s willingness to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.

According to journalist Simon Phillips via Substack, Chelsea officials met with Eze’s representatives on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, to gauge interest and outline their intentions. Despite not initiating contact with Crystal Palace yet, the West London club are reportedly laying the groundwork for a potential deal.

“Eze has a release clause of £65m,” Phillips confirmed, “but Chelsea are waiting for a green light from the player before taking the next step.”

The Selhurst Park talisman, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or from the left wing, is also attracting attention from other top clubs, including Arsenal and Bayern Munich. Reports earlier in the summer suggested Arsenal were preparing to open negotiations with Palace, and Eze himself is said to be open to a move to the Emirates.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are continuing to ride the momentum of a successful 2024/25 season under new manager Enzo Maresca, who led the club to both the UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup titles. The Blues have already added Joao Pedro and Liam Delap to their ranks, with more signings expected before the window shuts.

Former England striker and football pundit Alan Shearer recently backed Chelsea to be serious contenders in the Premier League this season. “Chelsea have the pieces falling into place, and Maresca has brought stability and silverware quickly. They’ll be dangerous,” Shearer commented.

Eze has been a standout performer for Crystal Palace since his arrival from Queens Park Rangers. His senior club record includes 167 appearances and 40 goals for Palace, with 28 assists, further underlining his creative prowess. He has also earned 12 caps for the England national team.
