The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has addressed recent remarks by Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, clarifying that his statements represent personal views and not the coalition’s position.

Responding to Baba-Ahmed’s claim on Channels TV that the coalition led by ADC is “misleading Nigerians,” Jackie Wayas, ADC’s deputy national publicity secretary, emphasised the coalition’s collective nature involving multiple political leaders and parties. “Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is known for integrity and justice. Since this coalition is built on shared strength, we hope he will join in pushing for a better Nigeria,” Wayas said.

Wayas highlighted the coalition’s genesis through consultations with prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, former transport minister Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi.

Affirming Obi’s dedication, Wayas referenced his July 3, 2025 announcement pledging commitment to the coalition and confirming ADC as the platform for the 2027 elections. She said, “The coalition is focused on unity, national interest, and providing solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.”

Wayas urged Nigerians to rally behind ADC for a clear and united opposition, stating, “Nigerians deserve a clear and united opposition. Let us rally behind the ADC to rescue the nation.” The statement underscores the coalition’s vision for competent, compassionate leadership prioritising citizens’ welfare.
