Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface is on the cusp of joining AC Milan from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan deal, with the Italian club already assigning him the iconic No.22 jersey. This number, famously worn by legends like Kaka, signals Milan’s high expectations for the Nigerian forward.
Italian journalist Louis Girardi revealed that Boniface’s kit is ready for unveiling at Casa Milan, symbolising the club’s eagerness to integrate the 24-year-old striker into their attacking line-up. Boniface earned his reputation in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and has attracted attention for his pace, scoring ability, and versatility.
Despite this, the transfer is not yet complete. Upon arrival in Milan, Boniface underwent extensive medical tests after initial examinations raised concerns due to his history of injuries, including two anterior cruciate ligament surgeries and recurring groin issues. The player was sent for additional scans at the Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute, where Milan’s medical team seeks a final verdict to ensure his fitness to play at the top level.
While Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba reported that Boniface has passed his medicals, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that Milan requires confirmation from their orthopaedic specialists within 24 hours before proceeding. Another reporter, Sacha Tavolieri, warned that these latest medical findings have cooled the club’s enthusiasm, putting the deal “at real risk” of collapsing.
The proposed move, structured as a €5 million loan with an option to buy for about €30 million, had seen Boniface agree to personal terms and was broadly viewed as a smart acquisition for Milan’s ambitions.
As the Rossoneri await medical clearance, the decision is expected to come after their Serie A fixture against Cremonese. Should the verdict be unfavourable, Boniface would return to Bayer Leverkusen to continue his career in Germany.
