Royal Antwerp manager Stef Wils has commented on Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare’s recent struggles at KRC Genk, highlighting the forward’s reduced involvement and frequent appearances from the bench despite his proven scoring pedigree.
Wils noted during a pre-match press briefing ahead of Antwerp’s game against KV Mechelen, “Balikwisha and Lammens are fully involved, unlike, for example, Tolu Arokodare at KRC Genk, who is sticking to substitute appearances.” His remarks drew attention to the contrast between Arokodare’s current peripheral role and his impressive form last season.
Since joining Genk in January 2023, Arokodare firmly established himself as a leading attacking talent, finishing the 2023/24 Belgian Pro League season as top scorer with 21 goals and six assists across 40 matches. However, a new season has seen limited playing opportunities, sparking rumours about his future.
Napoli has reportedly entered talks to sign the 24-year-old following injury setbacks to Romelu Lukaku. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealed on Tuesday that Napoli initiated contact with Arokodare’s representatives. Genk’s valuation of the forward ranges between €20-25 million.
Despite club uncertainties, Arokodare remains very much in Nigeria’s national team plans. Eric Chelle, Nigeria’s head coach, included him in the 31-man provisional squad recently announced for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa this September.
