The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to retire 1,516 officers across the country between 2026 and 2027 as part of its statutory retirement programme.

According to the retirement schedule released by the service, 825 personnel are expected to exit in 2026, while another 691 officers will retire in 2027.

The exercise will affect officers across multiple cadres, ranging from the rank of Deputy Comptroller-General to Customs Assistant II, reflecting a broad restructuring within the organisation.

The planned retirements form part of the NCS’s routine workforce management process, aimed at implementing mandatory retirement provisions and creating opportunities for career progression within the service.

The announcement marks one of the largest scheduled retirement exercises in recent years and is expected to pave the way for a new generation of customs personnel to take up leadership and operational responsibilities.
