Governor Uba Sani has assured corps members of the government’s commitment to their welfare and security while promoting free transportation through CNG-powered buses operating on over 40 routes.

Mr Sani gave the assurance at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream ‘I’ orientation course at the NYSC temporary orientation camp, Government College, Kaduna, on Tuesday.

Mr Sani, represented by the commissioner for youth development, Gloria Ibrahim, said the government would address corps members’ welfare concerns, following renovations of hostels at the temporary camp. He said the well-being and security of corps members remained priorities of his administration, urging them to remain security-conscious as they proceeded to their places of primary assignment.

Mr Sani advised the corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities, identify their needs and execute community development service projects to improve living standards. He encouraged them to take advantage of the state government’s CNG-powered buses, which provide free, safe and convenient transportation across more than 40 routes in Kaduna State.

The governor appealed to public and private organisations to accept corps members, support their settlement and ensure their welfare to make their service year meaningful.

The NYSC coordinator in Kaduna, Abubakar Bawa, said the corps members distinguished themselves through discipline, resilience, perseverance and active participation in camp activities. Mr Bawa urged them to proceed promptly to their respective places of primary assignment after receiving their posting letters and discharge their duties with diligence, selflessness and commitment to excellence.

Mr Bawa described national service as a noble sacrifice, stressing that hard work, perseverance and dedication were essential foundations for lasting success. He also encouraged corps members to stay in touch with their trainers under the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme to benefit from post-camp training.

Mr Bawa said the initiative would equip them with practical skills, promote self-reliance and enable them to become employers of labour. He advised the corps members to respect the cultural values of their host communities, remain security-conscious and move in groups for personal safety.

He lauded the governor for supporting the NYSC scheme, particularly through hostel renovations and the provision of facilities to improve corps members’ comfort. However, he appealed for additional support, especially improved feeding arrangements during orientation courses and the introduction of state allowances to enhance corps members’ welfare.

Mr Bawa commended collaborating agencies, stakeholders and camp officials for their contributions to the successful conduct of the orientation course.
