Nigerian troops have arrested a suspected terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a military operation in Kaduna State, the military has said.
The operation was carried out by troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists around Rijana in Kachia Local Government Area.
According to reports, soldiers mounted an ambush after receiving information about the suspects’ movement through the surrounding bushes. The suspects reportedly engaged the troops before fleeing into the area.
During a subsequent search of the location, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition, a magazine carrier and other military-style equipment.
In a separate operation at Awom village in Kachia LGA, troops also arrested a suspected criminal identified as Jacob.
He was reportedly found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
The suspect remains in military custody and is expected to assist investigators with further intelligence as security forces intensify operations against armed groups operating across the North-West.
The Kaduna operation formed part of wider security operations by Operation FANSAN YAMMA across the region, including a separate operation in Katsina State where troops rescued 14 kidnapped victims.
