President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a fresh set of non-career ambassadorial nominations to the Senate, including former naval chief Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas and ex-chief of army staff and former interior minister Abdulrahman Dambazau.

Also named in the latest batch are Ita Enang, a former senator, and Chioma Ohakim, former first lady of Imo State. Their nominations did not appear on an earlier list of ambassadorial nominees released by the presidency.

The president’s letter was read during Thursday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who said Mr. Tinubu urged lawmakers to expedite consideration to allow the government to fill “critical diplomatic postings.” Akpabio referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and directed the panel to conclude its screening and report back within one week.

Earlier this year the presidency had also nominated Reno Omokri, Femi Fani-Kayode and Mahmood Yakubu for ambassadorial roles; their confirmations are pending.
