President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, describing his passing as a significant loss to Kogi State and Nigeria.
Mr Idris, who died in the United Kingdom on Sunday aged 77, served as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2011, with his tenure spanning nearly nine years. (Trending News)
In a condolence message issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said the late governor devoted a substantial part of his life to public service and the development of Kogi State.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was a committed public servant whose years in office formed an important chapter in the political and developmental history of Kogi State,” Mr Tinubu said. (Voice of Nigeria)
The president acknowledged the former governor’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and noted interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare and other sectors during his administration.
Mr Tinubu extended his condolences to the Idris family, the Kogi State Government, as well as the late governor’s friends, associates and political colleagues.
“His passing is a painful loss to his family, Kogi State and Nigeria,” the president said, urging Nigerians to remember and honour Mr Idris’ contributions to the state and the country.
President Tinubu also prayed for the repose of the former governor’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
He further prayed for strength and fortitude for the family to bear the loss. (thesun.ng)
