Abia State Governor Alex Otti has firmly dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to defect from the Labour Party, insisting he remains committed to rebuilding the party and fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Abia.
Speaking on Tuesday, Otti described the speculation as “baseless and politically motivated,” stressing that his priority is governance, not political negotiations.
“I am not leaving the Labour Party,” he said. “My focus is to rescue the party, strengthen its structures, and continue delivering the development our people deserve. Those spreading these rumours are simply seeking distraction.”
Otti reaffirmed that his administration has made significant progress in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and public-sector reforms, adding that his loyalty remains with Abians who elected him.
“As long as Abians trust me with this mandate, my commitment is to serve them with transparency, courage, and results,” he stated.
Political analysts say the governor’s response appears aimed at quelling growing speculation within national political circles as party alignments intensify ahead of future elections.
The Labour Party leadership has also expressed confidence in Otti’s continued membership, describing him as “one of the party’s most visible and effective leaders.”
Otti’s reassurance comes amid wider political movements across Nigeria, as governors and federal lawmakers increasingly face scrutiny over their next political steps.
