Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned the inclusion of two senior government officials in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council for the 2027 election.
Kwankwaso criticised the decision to appoint Zacch Adedeji, executive chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), and Taminu Yakubu, director-general of the Budget Office of the Federation, to the 108-member council.
The APC unveiled the campaign council on Saturday as part of preparations for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.
The ruling party appointed Abdulaziz Yari, senator representing Zamfara West, as director-general of the campaign council, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary.
Kwankwaso’s criticism centres on the participation of serving officials responsible for key public institutions in a partisan political campaign, raising questions about the separation between government responsibilities and party activities.
The development comes as political parties begin to intensify their preparations for the 2027 general election, with the APC seeking to consolidate President Tinubu’s position while opposition parties work to build a formidable challenge.
The campaign council, comprising 108 members drawn from across the party’s ranks, is expected to coordinate the APC’s nationwide mobilisation and campaign activities ahead of the election.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in the 2023 election, is among the opposition figures positioning themselves for the 2027 contest.
With the election still months away, the composition and activities of the major parties’ campaign structures are expected to attract increasing scrutiny as the political contest gathers momentum.
