Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has said his administration will not negotiate with bandits or other criminal elements terrorising communities across the state.
Mr Lawal said the state government would continue to deploy its resources towards strengthening security and supporting efforts to end banditry and other forms of criminality.
The governor made the remarks while reiterating his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and protecting residents across Zamfara.
He said his government would not be intimidated into negotiating with criminals, stressing that the priority remained the safety of residents and the restoration of normal life in communities affected by insecurity.
According to him, the government will continue to work with security agencies and provide the necessary support to enable them confront bandits operating in the state.
Mr Lawal also said state resources would continue to be channelled towards security operations and other measures aimed at tackling the root causes and consequences of insecurity.
Zamfara has for years faced persistent attacks and kidnappings by armed groups, with several communities experiencing displacement and disruption to economic activities.
The governor’s position signals a continued reliance on security operations rather than negotiations with armed criminal groups as his administration seeks to curb the insecurity.
He called on residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information that could assist in identifying and apprehending criminals.
