Former Edo State Governor and serving Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, is facing questions over the implementation of projects reportedly worth N675 million during his administration, including the whereabouts of 11 transformers said to have been procured for communities across the state.
The concerns have emerged amid renewed scrutiny of projects executed under previous administrations, with questions being raised about the delivery, deployment and current status of the transformers.
The transformers were reportedly acquired as part of efforts to improve electricity supply to communities in Edo State. However, questions have now been raised over whether all 11 units were delivered to their intended locations and put into use.
The development has prompted calls for greater transparency regarding the projects, including details of the contracts, contractors, locations of the projects and evidence of completion.
Oshiomhole, who served as Edo governor from 2008 to 2016, has yet to publicly provide a detailed explanation addressing the specific concerns over the N675 million projects and the whereabouts of the 11 transformers.
The controversy comes as public interest continues to grow around accountability in the management of public funds, particularly over projects financed with taxpayers’ money.
Under Nigeria’s democratic system, public officials are expected to account for public expenditure and provide clarification where questions arise over the execution of government-funded projects.
The latest questions are therefore likely to fuel further calls for an independent review of the projects and a clear account of how the funds were spent.
Until the relevant authorities or the former governor provide further documentation, however, the allegations remain questions requiring clarification rather than established findings of wrongdoing.
