President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as Nigeria’s new Minister of State for Finance during a brief ceremony at the State House on Monday.
The swearing-in, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marked a swift addition to the federal cabinet as the government moves to strengthen economic management amid mounting fiscal pressures in Nigeria.
Oyedele, a respected tax policy specialist and former chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, took the oath of office in the presence of senior government officials and aides shortly before the Federal Executive Council meeting.
The presidency said the appointment reflects Tinubu’s push to accelerate reforms aimed at boosting government revenue, improving tax administration and stabilising the country’s finances.
Speaking after the ceremony, officials described Oyedele’s role as central to ongoing fiscal restructuring efforts, particularly in implementing tax reforms designed to widen the revenue base and ease the burden on businesses.
Nigeria has faced increasing economic challenges in recent months, including high inflation, currency volatility and pressure on public finances. Analysts say the appointment of a technocrat with strong expertise in tax policy signals the administration’s intent to prioritise fiscal reform.
