The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ekiti State governorship election has criticised the conduct of the poll, describing the electoral process as “useless” amid delays in the commencement of voting and allegations of voter intimidation.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, the PDP candidate accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of failing to ensure a smooth and transparent election, while alleging that security operatives were harassing voters at several polling units.

“The process is useless,” the candidate said, claiming that an unusually large deployment of police officers had created an atmosphere of fear among voters.

“You should go there and see the army of policemen that are harassing people. They are using fake vehicles. I recorded them, and I have evidence of that,” the candidate alleged.

The opposition flagbearer vowed to present evidence to support the claims, insisting that the reported incidents undermined the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.

As of the time of filing this report, INEC and the Nigeria Police Force had not responded publicly to the allegations.
