Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed surprise and gratitude after being acknowledged by former United States President Donald Trump, describing the moment as a powerful symbol of global recognition.

Speaking on the development, Tinubu reflected on the unexpected attention, saying the acknowledgement underscored how perseverance can turn adversity into opportunity.

“Who would have thought that President Trump would recognise me? I am getting global recognition on all of this, and that is what life is all about. If something is going to be good, it starts from the rubbles,” she said.

Her remarks have since drawn widespread reactions across Nigeria, with supporters hailing the moment as a boost to the country’s international visibility, while others see it as a reminder of the growing profile of Nigeria’s current leadership on the global stage.

Oluremi Tinubu, a former senator and long-time public figure, became First Lady following President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration in May 2023. Since assuming the role, she has been actively involved in social advocacy, women’s empowerment initiatives and humanitarian programmes.

The acknowledgement by Trump, though brief, has sparked conversations online and in political circles, highlighting the symbolic weight of international recognition for Nigerian leaders amid ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and elevate the country’s global image.
