President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Dr. Abdullahi Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during a brief ceremony held at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.

The appointment follows the Senate’s confirmation of Dr. Amupitan, who succeeds Professor Mahmood Yakubu after the completion of his tenure.

In his remarks, President Tinubu charged the new INEC Chairman to uphold transparency, impartiality and integrity in the conduct of future elections, emphasising that the credibility of Nigeria’s democracy depends largely on the commission’s performance.

Dr. Amupitan, in his response, pledged to strengthen public trust in the electoral process, deepen institutional reforms within INEC, and ensure that the commission remains independent and technologically driven.

The event was attended by senior government officials, members of the Federal Executive Council, and key political figures.
