The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has announced the withdrawal of all ongoing lawsuits he filed against individuals, including fellow lawmaker Senator Natasha, over alleged defamation and slander.
In a statement, Akpabio revealed that he had nearly nine active cases in court against those he accused of spreading falsehoods and tarnishing his reputation. However, after personal reflection, he decided to call off the legal battles.
“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name. But I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me, so I hereby direct my solicitor to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” Akpabio said.
The move marks a surprising turn in a series of high-profile defamation suits involving the Senate President, signalling a shift toward reconciliation rather than prolonged legal confrontation.
As of now, no further comments have been made by the affected parties, including Senator Natasha. Legal experts say the withdrawals could have wider political implications, especially in the ongoing discourse over conduct and accountability among Nigerian lawmakers.
