Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and ex-governor of Anambra State, has formally announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition-backed political party.

Obi made the declaration on Tuesday during an event at Nike Lake Resort, Enugu. Speaking to supporters and party members, he expressed optimism about the coming year and the political challenges ahead.

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi stated. He further vowed that his new political platform would fight electoral malpractice, pledging, “We will resist rigging of election by every lawful means in 2027.”

The announcement was attended by key ADC figures, including David Mark, the national chairman of the party, highlighting the significance of Obi’s move.

This shift marks a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, signaling a realignment among opposition parties and their supporters.
