Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, SAN, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant for Osun State’s 2026 poll, has promised a bold revival of the state’s tourism sector as a critical driver for economic diversification and youth empowerment.

Speaking to party stakeholders in Ila Orangun, the senior lawyer highlighted Osun’s rich cultural and natural heritage as a treasure trove begging for renewed focus. “Osun State is blessed with some of Nigeria’s most iconic tourist sites, including the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, Erin Ijesha and Ayankunugba Waterfalls, and the Oranmiyan Grove in Ile Ife,” he said.

Adegoke’s vision positions Ile Ife as both the cradle of Yoruba civilisation and a spiritual capital that must be elevated through strategic investment and innovative technology. He vowed to harness mobile apps and digital tools to make tourism safer and more accessible, bringing convenience to visitors and enhancing local business opportunities. “Tourism is not just about showcasing our history and nature; it’s about creating jobs, especially for our youth, in tourism and related sectors,” he added.

The aspirant’s flagship initiative, dubbed ‘Project Origin,’ aims specifically to reinforce Ile Ife’s historical significance. He described tourism as “low-hanging fruit” for Osun’s economic diversification, capable of attracting more visitors, stimulating local commerce, and ultimately reducing the state’s dependence on federal allocations.

Support from party leaders and cultural figures has been forthcoming. Dr Obawale, a former State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, likened Adegoke’s ‘Project Origin’ to his own impactful initiatives during his tenure, calling it “a game-changer for Osun’s tourism potential.” Hon Femi Fakeye, former federal legislator, urged the aspirant to persevere in spreading his developmental vision across the state.

While tourism stands at the core of his immediate agenda, Adegoke affirmed that additional projects for broader development will be unveiled soon. He urged residents and party members to rally behind his transparent and pragmatic approach, stating, “Together, we can build an Osun where tourism thrives through wealth creation and opportunities for all.”
