Kiagbodo, Delta State, Nigeria Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, OFR, CON, a prominent Nigerian elder statesman, former Federal Commissioner for Information, and leader of the South-South region, has passed away. He died on Monday night at the age of 97, according to a family statement.
The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, announced the passing of the chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).
Born in Kiagbodo, in present-day Delta State, Chief Clark’s educational journey took him through primary and secondary schools in Effurun, Okrika, and Afugbene. He later attended the Government Teacher Training College (now Delta State University, Abraka) before working briefly as a teacher and subsequently pursuing a law degree abroad.
Chief Clark’s distinguished career in public service included working with the administrations of military governor Samuel Ogbemudia and Head of State General Yakubu Gowon between 1966 and 1975. He served on an advisory committee to the military governor of the Mid-Western Region, David Ejoor, in 1966 and was appointed Federal Commissioner of Information in 1975. He will be remembered for his contributions to national development and his advocacy for the Niger Delta region.
