The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is making significant strides in reforming the nation’s mining industry through the strategic operations of its Special Mining Marshals. Recent enforcement activities, spearheaded by ACC Attah John Onoja, have proven effective in disrupting illegal mining operations and enhancing compliance with industry regulations.

Industry stakeholders have expressed their appreciation for the NSCDC’s efforts under the leadership of Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, PhD. They have noted that the initiatives led by the Special Mining Marshals have contributed to a safer and more regulated mining environment.

During a recent stakeholders meeting with the NSCDC’s Special Mining Marshal Commander, Professor Olusegun Omoniyi Ige, Director General of the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, praised the agency’s ongoing commitment to enforcing mining guidelines. He stated, “The continuous arrests and crackdowns on illegal miners have compelled others to adhere to operational rules and regulations, resulting in a gradual restoration of order in this economically vital sector.”

The meeting served to reinforce the collaboration between the NSCDC and the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, aimed at fostering a safer and more efficient mining sector in Nigeria.

The Special Mining Marshals, a dedicated task force under the leadership of Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, mni, have been unwavering in their mission to secure mining areas, protect legitimate title holders, and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks. Their operations have effectively dismantled illegal mining activities and criminal elements, thereby bolstering the integrity of Nigeria’s mining sector.

With the increase in compliance, stakeholders are optimistic that ongoing enforcement efforts will create a conducive environment for sustainable mining practices, attract investment, and mitigate the environmental degradation often linked to illegal mining.
