Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former presidential adviser, has called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step aside in 2027 and allow a younger generation of Nigerians to take the reins of leadership, saying it would mark a dignified and transformative exit from power.

In an open letter released on Wednesday and published by Daily Trust, Baba-Ahmed call on Tinubu to abandon any plans for re-election, positioning the move as an opportunity to cement a legacy of selfless leadership.

“Step aside not for your opponents, but for a younger generation of Nigerians who can carry the nation forward with fresh energy and ideas,” he wrote.

“Our generation has done its time. It would be a masterstroke if you and your party yielded the field to new voices and new leadership. That way, you could catalyse a peaceful, historic transformation and inspire a new political culture rooted in merit, unity, and progress.”

He emphasized that Tinubu should carefully consider how he wants history to remember his time in office, suggesting that bowing out voluntarily would earn him lasting respect.

Baba-Ahmed also criticised the Tinubu’s administration for failing to turn the momentum of Tinubu’s inauguration into tangible leadership.

He described the Renewed Hope Agenda as a collection of campaign promises lacking a clear, actionable governance strategy.

He further slammed the president’s cabinet, claiming that over half of its members “have no business managing an administration tasked with improving security, livelihoods, or public trust.”
