The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared it will not accept Governor Peter Mbah into its fold, accusing him of security failures and a lack of action against rising insecurity. This announcement came during a meeting where 150 prominent members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) defected to the APC.
Body:
APC State Chairman, Ugochukwu Agballah, stated the party’s position, citing the governor’s alleged inaction regarding “killer herdsmen” in Uzo-Uwani and Isi-Uzo local government areas. “The Peter Mbah-led government has failed in its primary duty of protecting lives and property of citizens of Enugu state,” Agballah said.
The APC also accused the state government of attempting to suppress news of the killings.
The meeting saw the defection of 150 members from the PDP and LP, including former PDP House of Assembly aspirant, Barr. Peter Okonkwo, and former Uzo-Uwani LGA Chairman, Chief Tony Chigbo. The APC welcomed the defectors, assuring them of equal treatment.
This announcement comes amid a wave of defections, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s move from the PDP to the APC, signifying political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Enugu APC also endorsed the suspension of Senator Chukwuka Utazi for anti-party activities and praised Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, for his support. The party pledged its support for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and urged Igbo people to back his administration.
