Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the former Minister of State for Education under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Nwajiuba, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, stated that Nigeria’s current socio-economic challenges demand leadership rooted in sound policy, effective negotiation, and genuine grassroots engagement rather than mere political rhetoric.

In a statement released by his office on Monday, the former minister noted that his extensive experience across the legislative and executive arms of government has equipped him with a deep understanding of governance, public finance, and policy formulation.

The legal practitioner, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989, is expected to anchor his campaign on a “competence-first” approach. His manifesto focuses on three critical pillars: comprehensive education reform, economic stabilization, and the restoration of public trust in government institutions.

The statement read in part: “Nigeria is at a crossroads that requires institutional knowledge and a steady hand. My entry into this race is driven by the need to provide a leadership model that prioritizes experience and policy depth as central pillars of national governance.”

Nwajiuba previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), a role he believes provided him with unique insights into the nexus between human capital development and national growth.

His move to the ADC adds a significant dimension to the evolving 2027 political landscape. It signals an increasing trend of established political figures seeking alternative platforms outside the dominant parties to offer Nigerians a different leadership narrative.

“With his declaration, Nwajiuba joins a growing list of aspirants aiming to shape the national conversation ahead of the next general election, as debates around competence, experience, and inclusive governance continue to gain momentum,” the statement added.
