A chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Buba Galadima, has accused President Bola Tinubu of designing the Electoral Act to favour the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the law was crafted to hinder opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of the NDC National Reconciliation Committee, established to resolve disputes arising from the coalition’s primary elections and strengthen internal unity ahead of the next general polls.
According to him, the Electoral Act was conceived long before it reached the National Assembly and was intended to protect the political interests of President Tinubu and the APC.
“The Electoral Act was designed and perfected by President Tinubu even before it was taken to the National Assembly. He’s only protecting himself and the APC and making it difficult for other parties to produce candidates,” Galadima said.
The NDC stalwart further alleged that the President was not interested in a competitive electoral process, insisting that opposition forces would resist what he described as attempts to undermine democratic competition.
“Tinubu is not thinking of a contest with anybody, but we won’t allow it. Even if it’s an empty coffin, all Nigerians must come together and throw him out for the sake of this country,” he added.
The inauguration of the reconciliation committee comes as the NDC intensifies efforts to heal internal divisions following its primary elections, with party leaders expressing optimism that a united front will strengthen the coalition’s preparations for the 2027 polls.
Neither the Presidency nor the APC had responded to Galadima’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
