Former Minister of Transportation and Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, citing his vast “institutional knowledge” as his greatest asset.
Speaking on “Frontline,” a current affairs program on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese Ijebu, on Tuesday, the former two-term Governor of Rivers State expressed supreme confidence in securing the ADC ticket.
“I am the most experienced among all aspirants,” Amaechi stated. “I was Speaker, Governor, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and Minister. I led the opposition that defeated an incumbent president. That experience is critical.”
Amaechi also used the platform to distance himself from his former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating his exit was a matter of principle. He alleged that the current administration under President Bola Tinubu has drifted toward authoritarianism.
“I did not believe [Tinubu] had the capacity to govern Nigeria, and what is happening today has confirmed my position,” Amaechi said.
