The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has resolved the leadership dispute within its Kano State chapter, reaffirming Hon. Husaini Isah Mai Riga as the substantive chairman. Mai Riga had previously accused Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of attempting to hijack the party’s state structure.

The disagreement followed the entry of the former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into the party. His arrival triggered tension within the state chapter, leading some members to question Mai Riga’s leadership.

Mai Riga, who resisted initial attempts to unseat him, maintained that his mandate was legitimate and insisted he would not relinquish his position without due process.

The standoff drew the attention of the party’s national leadership, which convened a special meeting on Tuesday chaired by Sen. Seriake Henry Dickson. The meeting—attended by Kwankwaso, NDC Northwest Vice Chairman Engr. Muhammad Sabo Bakin Zuwo, and other senior leaders—concluded with a resolution affirming Mai Riga as the Kano chairman.

Party insiders stated that Kwankwaso agreed to Mai Riga retaining his seat in exchange for other leadership positions within the structure.

Speaking after the resolution, Mai Riga expressed gratitude to the national leadership and the people of Kano for their support. He also apologized to anyone he may have offended during the dispute, stating that the outcome reflected the wisdom of the party’s leaders. He confirmed that they had agreed to allocate 60 percent of the party’s leadership structure to Kwankwaso’s faction while he remains chairman.
