The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has issued a scathing rebuttal to former SGF Babachir Lawal’s claim that the North has collectively embraced the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), branding it a “shameless fabrication”and a “desperate political gambit”by a self-serving faction.
In a fiery statement signed by Sp Ibrahim Dan-Musa, NEYGA dismissed the Abuja gathering where the declaration was made as “a gathering of Atiku loyalists masquerading as Northern representatives.”
“The North is not a political pawn to be manipulated by a select few,”Dan-Musa declared. “Any decision of this magnitude must involve broad-based consultations with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and stakeholders not a clandestine meeting of political jobbers.”
NEYGA accused Lawal and his allies of “exploiting Northern unity for personal vendettas,”warning Nigerians to disregard what it termed “a fraudulent and undemocratic proclamation.”The group further condemned what it called “serial betrayers of Northern trust,” alleging that many now posing as regional champions had “failed the North woefully while in power.”
“We know the true patriots from the opportunists,”the statement thundered. “The North will not be railroaded into another political misadventure by those who see our region as a mere stepping stone to power.”
NEYGA urged Northerners to remain vigilant against “political merchants peddling false consensus,”vowing to resist any attempt to hijack the region’s democratic will.
The statement concluded with a stern warning The North is awake, and we will not be fooled again.
