A group of concerned members from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State has raised alarm over an alleged plot to forcibly take over the leadership of the party in the state. The group claims that certain individuals, whom they describe as unfamiliar with the party’s structure and operations, are attempting to hijack the party leadership through illegal means.

In a press conference held in Kabba, spokesperson Usman Lukman expressed grave concern over the alleged activities. He emphasized that the group would not tolerate any attempt to undermine the ADC’s leadership through unconstitutional actions.

“Credible intelligence available to us indicates that certain individuals, unknown to our structures and alien to our operations, are plotting to forcefully take over the leadership of the ADC in Kogi State,” Lukman stated. He made it clear that while the Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of association, no individual or group has the right to unlawfully topple the leadership of the party.

Lukman further stated that the ADC in Kogi State has been carefully built from the grassroots, with loyalty, sacrifice, and discipline. He stressed that the party’s constitution and democratic values would not be compromised. “The ADC is governed by its constitution, values, and democratic ethos. Those who recklessly destroyed the PDP cannot be allowed to invade our party and subject it to the same fate,” he said.

The group expressed full support for the party’s current leader, Rt. Hon. Elder Leke Abejide, and reaffirmed their commitment to him. They distanced themselves from “political opportunists” and “strange bedfellows” trying to disrupt the unity and stability of the party.

“We do not recognize or associate with those seeking to crawl in through the window and destabilize our collective heritage. Our loyalty remains firmly with Rt. Hon. Elder Leke Abejide,” Lukman added.

The group urged security agencies to take immediate action to prevent any potential disruption of peace and order in the state, which they attribute to the alleged plot.

“We call on security agencies to take urgent notice of this threat and act decisively to prevent any breakdown of law and order in Kogi State. Our democracy thrives on order, respect for process, and adherence to the rule of law, not on desperate power grabs by faceless interlopers,” the spokesperson warned.

The group has also advised all security agencies in Kogi to disregard any gatherings or meetings in the name of the ADC that do not come from the party’s leader, Rt. Hon. Abejide, or the constitutionally recognized State Chairman of the ADC. They warned that any such events would be illegal and could lead to further destabilization.

“Our members across the state are already agitated by this disturbing development and are fully determined to stop any attempt by political wanderers to destabilize our dear party,” the group concluded.
