The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned what it described as the deliberate destruction of campaign billboards bearing the image of President Bola Tinubu across the state.

The party’s Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Malam Yusuf Idris, made the condemnation in a statement issued on Friday in Gusau, warning that the trend could trigger political unrest if not urgently addressed.

According to Idris, the APC has observed a sustained pattern of vandalism targeting billboards and posters of the president in various parts of the state.

“We have noticed the systematic removal and destruction of billboards carrying the image of Mr President throughout the state,” he said. “This erratic behaviour has been ongoing for some time, beginning with a clampdown on APC billboards until the party petitioned security agencies.”

He alleged that the acts were politically motivated and designed to inflame tensions ahead of the party’s congresses and the 2027 general elections.

Idris cited a recent incident on Wednesday in which, he claimed, suspected thugs attempted to vandalise a billboard installed in front of the Gusau residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle. The billboard also featured former Zamfara governor and Senator Abdulaziz Yari.

“On Wednesday, some sponsored thugs attempted to carry out such incivility on the president’s billboard, which also reflected the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, and Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, both former governors and leaders of the party,” he said.

He added that the attempt was foiled due to the swift intervention of security personnel attached to the residence.

The APC spokesperson called on security agencies to take decisive action against those responsible, describing the destruction of the president’s image as both unlawful and disrespectful.

“The party once again wishes to register its concern and implore security agencies in the state to halt such vandalism and disrespect to the president. Enough is enough,” Idris said.

He maintained that the APC is a peace-loving party but would not remain passive in the face of actions capable of undermining public order.

“We will not tolerate activities of some selfish politicians seeking to incite political violence under the guise of politics,” he added.

The party urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while authorities investigate the incidents.
