Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to Senate Leader Opeyemi Basiru over comments linked to the political crisis in Rivers State, declaring the state a “no-go area” for those attempting to interfere.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a central figure in the ongoing power tussle involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and political stakeholders in the state, accused Basiru of meddling in matters he “does not understand”.
In a fiery response circulated through local media on Sunday, Wike cautioned the senator against inserting himself into the state’s political affairs.
“Rivers no go area. Your hand will burn,” Wike said, warning that political interventions from outside the state could worsen tensions.
The minister insisted that Rivers’ internal issues must be handled by those “who understand its political dynamics” and not by individuals seeking “cheap political relevance”.
His comments come amid a renewed wave of political friction in the state, where rival factions have continued to clash over governance, party loyalty and constitutional issues surrounding the state legislature.
