Former governors Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom, Ayo Fayose, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have issued a firm six-point ultimatum to the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) just weeks before the party’s national convention. The group insists that the party must uphold equity, fairness, and inclusivity to maintain its credibility as a viable opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The demands, arising from a late-night meeting at the residence of the FCT Minister, were formally communicated by Ortom, who emphasised that “unity cannot be built on disenfranchisement, exclusion, or the neglect of valid judicial pronouncements.”
The six key demands include:
Conducting fresh congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States to comply with court rulings
Holding an urgent South-East zonal congress
Respecting the outcome of the South-South Congress in Calabar, as upheld by the courts
Immediate conduct of Ekiti Local Government Area congresses following judicial directives
Rejecting micro-zoning beyond the National Executive Council’s (NEC) adopted formula
Maintaining the national chairmanship in the North Central zone, consistent with the 2021 zoning arrangement
The communiqué warned that failure to address these issues would deepen internal crises within the PDP. “The PDP was built on inclusivity, fairness, and justice. To reclaim its pride of place as Nigeria’s true opposition, the party must rise above narrow interests and embrace collective responsibility,” it affirmed.
