Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), vowing political retaliation against any who abandon the party.

Speaking during a political gathering, Wike declared that the PDP would move decisively to reclaim its mandate from elected officials who defect to rival parties, signalling a deepening rift within the opposition.

“All of you who took our mandate, we will take it back,” Wike said, in a blunt message aimed at governors reportedly considering defection ahead of future elections.

The former Rivers State governor stressed that the party’s support and structure were instrumental to the electoral victories of PDP governors, arguing that leaving the party after benefiting from its platform amounts to betrayal of both the party and its supporters.

His remarks come amid rising speculation over possible defections within the PDP, as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift ahead of upcoming electoral contests.

Wike’s comments underline growing tensions within the opposition party and signal the possibility of intensified political battles in the months ahead.
