The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has praised Kaduna State for its growing stability and improved social cohesion, describing the prevailing peace as the outcome of deliberate governance and sustained dialogue under Governor Uba Sani.
Welby made the remarks during a visit to the state, where he commended the Kaduna Government for prioritising inclusive leadership, community engagement and reconciliation across religious and ethnic lines. He noted that the reduction in tensions and violence reflected conscious policy choices rather than chance.
According to the Archbishop, Governor Sani’s emphasis on dialogue with community leaders, faith groups and other stakeholders has helped rebuild trust and foster cooperation, laying the groundwork for lasting peace and development.
Welby also highlighted the importance of consistent engagement and responsive governance in conflict-prone societies, urging leaders at all levels to invest in listening, mediation and fairness as tools for unity.
In his response, Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peacebuilding, stressing that security and harmony remain central to Kaduna’s development agenda. He said the government would continue to promote policies that encourage inclusion, justice and mutual respect among the state’s diverse communities.
The visit underscores growing recognition of Kaduna’s progress and positions the state as an example of how purposeful leadership and sustained dialogue can translate into tangible peace and stability.
