President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for stronger joint security operations, deeper intelligence sharing and the effective use of Nigeria’s counterterrorism infrastructure to tackle escalating security threats across the region.
The President made the call while addressing regional leaders and security stakeholders, stressing that no single country can successfully confront terrorism and transnational crime in isolation. He said collective action and shared responsibility are now imperative in the face of increasingly sophisticated threats.
President Tinubu noted that Nigeria has invested significantly in counterterrorism frameworks, intelligence systems and security institutions, which can be leveraged through regional cooperation to enhance stability beyond its borders. He urged neighbouring countries to maximise existing mechanisms for collaboration rather than duplicating efforts.
According to him, effective intelligence sharing remains the backbone of any successful security strategy, adding that timely exchange of information can prevent attacks, dismantle criminal networks and protect lives.
The President also emphasised the need for trust, political will and sustained engagement among regional partners, warning that fragmented responses only embolden terrorist groups and organised criminals.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with regional and international allies to promote peace, security and economic stability, describing collective security as a prerequisite for development and prosperity in West Africa and beyond.
