The Nigerian military has issued a stark warning regarding Bello Turji, a notorious terrorist commander, labeling him a “dead man walking.” This declaration follows Turji’s recent threats to attack communities in Zamfara State unless his detained brother and associates are released.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, made the statement during a press briefing, emphasizing the military’s unwavering commitment to neutralizing all terrorist threats to national security.

“From January to December 31, 2024, we have eliminated over 1,000 terrorist leaders and commanders, along with their replacements,” Buba stated. “We assure you that a similar fate awaits others, including Bello Turji.”

The military’s comments come in response to Turji’s alarming demands, which have heightened fears among residents of Zamfara State.

Addressing skepticism over the effectiveness of recent airstrikes on the Lakurawa terrorist enclave, Buba dismissed allegations as baseless propaganda. He reaffirmed the military’s dedication to precision strikes and intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring public safety.

“Bello Turji is merely a dead man walking,” Buba remarked. “It would be an insult to engage in dialogue with a terrorist. Many before him have made similar boasts and have since been neutralized. We will do the same with him and others like him.”

Buba also addressed concerns regarding the military’s Christmas Day bombing of Lakurawa, where several terrorists and their collaborators were killed. “The first casualty of war is the truth,” he explained. “It’s no surprise when terrorists or their supporters spread false narratives. It would be disrespectful to the military to believe such propaganda.”

He urged the public not to succumb to terrorist misinformation, asserting that the military’s operations have successfully targeted and destroyed terrorist positions, including their ammunition and logistics supplies. “This is a war for Nigerians, and we must stand united against their lies.”
