A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has accused the Federal Government of Nigeria of failing to account for the billions of dollars in military assistance it has received from Washington, alleging that attacks on Christians continue unabated across the country.
Moore, who raised the concern in a statement released on Wednesday, criticised Nigeria’s handling of persistent insecurity despite years of defence support from the United States. He argued that the Nigerian government has not demonstrated tangible progress in protecting vulnerable communities, particularly Christians facing violence in several northern and central states.
“The United States has poured billions of dollars into Nigeria’s military with the hope of fostering peace and stability,” Moore said. “Yet, we continue to see horrifying reports of Christian persecution and mass killings without accountability. It’s time to question where this money is going and whether it is being used for its intended purpose.”
The lawmaker called for a review of US–Nigeria defence cooperation, urging Washington to demand greater transparency and human rights compliance before extending further military aid.
His comments come amid growing international concern over sectarian violence, banditry, and insurgency that have plagued Africa’s most populous nation. Despite repeated assurances from Abuja that the situation is improving, reports of attacks on rural communities
