The United States has delivered military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force as part of efforts to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries and support Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
The equipment arrived in Nigeria on Sunday, 6 September, aboard a United States Air Force C-17 aircraft.
The delivery comes about a month after National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu led a Nigerian delegation to Washington DC for a meeting of the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group, where security cooperation and efforts to combat terrorism were among the issues discussed.
According to details surrounding the delivery, the equipment was supplied under a Foreign Military Sales agreement between the United States and Nigeria.
The latest support is expected to enhance the Nigerian Air Force’s operational capabilities as the country intensifies military efforts against terrorist groups and other armed threats, particularly in northern Nigeria.
The delivery also underscores growing defence and security cooperation between Abuja and Washington, with both countries working to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to confront terrorism and improve regional security.
Nigeria has continued to seek international partnerships, training and military equipment as it battles insurgency, terrorism and other security challenges across parts of the country.
The arrival of the equipment is expected to further deepen the US-Nigeria defence partnership and provide additional support to Nigeria’s ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
