Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has inaugurated newly completed road projects in Makarfi and Zaria, marking a significant boost to connectivity and economic activity across the state.
The governor also announced the payment of ₦1 billion as compensation to individuals and communities affected by the construction works, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fairness and inclusive development.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, Governor Sani said the road projects were part of a broader infrastructure renewal programme aimed at easing transportation, improving road safety and stimulating local commerce. He noted that the Makarfi and Zaria roads would enhance access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities, while reducing travel time for residents and businesses.
“These roads are not just about asphalt and concrete; they are about improving livelihoods, expanding economic opportunities and restoring confidence in governance,” the governor said.
He explained that the compensation paid to displaced property owners and land users followed due process and transparent assessment, adding that no meaningful development could be achieved at the expense of citizens’ rights.
Governor Sani further stressed that infrastructure development remained a top priority for his administration, with several road projects ongoing across Kaduna State. He assured residents that his government would continue to invest in people-centred projects while ensuring accountability in the use of public funds.
Community leaders in Makarfi and Zaria commended the governor for delivering the projects and for honouring compensation commitments, describing the gesture as a clear departure from past practices.
The newly opened roads are expected to significantly improve intra-city movement and strengthen Kaduna’s role as a commercial and transit hub in northern Nigeria.
