A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has lost the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 elections in Bauchi State, following a closely watched primary contest.
In results announced on Saturday, former governor Mohammed Abubakar emerged victorious, defeating Tuggar and five other aspirants to secure the party’s nomination.
The primary outcome marks a significant political setback for Tuggar, who had been considered one of the leading contenders ahead of the vote.
Abubakar’s win signals a return to frontline politics for the ex-governor, who previously led the north-eastern state and maintained a strong influence within the APC’s internal structures.
Party officials announced the results after the conclusion of voting, with Abubakar clearing the field in a contest that reshapes the party’s positioning ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
The APC is expected to formally ratify the outcome in line with its internal procedures in the coming days.
