The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has described human capital development as a critical pillar of national security and development, pledging enhanced resources and infrastructural support for the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB).
Gen. Shaibu made the commitment on Wednesday when he received the Governing Council and Management Team of the university on a courtesy visit at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army Chief emphasized that sustained investment in education, research, innovation, and technology remains vital to building a professional and combat-ready force capable of tackling Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Describing NAUB as a strategic national asset, the COAS noted that the institution plays a key role in modernizing Nigeria’s defence architecture. He lauded the university’s focus on specialized programmes such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cyber warfare, and other emerging technologies.
Gen. Shaibu also welcomed the university’s initiative to establish a Centre for Military Performance Management, noting that it would significantly enhance defence research and strategic decision-making.
Addressing the institution’s immediate needs, the COAS approved an assessment for additional housing for military faculty and staff. He also disclosed plans to leverage the Nigerian Army’s partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to construct a permanent Senate Building for the university, while promising full support for the accreditation of its academic programmes.
Earlier, the Chancellor of NAUB, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), the Orodje 1 of Okpe Kingdom, commended the COAS for his leadership and support of the institution.
The royal father expressed appreciation to the COAS for the Commendation Award presented to him during the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and announced that the university is set to host its combined graduation ceremony in October this year.
