Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and Operation Zafin Wuta, have successfully apprehended a suspected high-profile kidnapper in the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba state.
The suspect, identified as Umar Musa Geyi, was arrested on Saturday in the Jandei–Kulamu area. Military sources confirm that Geyi was intercepted while allegedly negotiating a substantial N20 million ransom with the relatives of an abducted victim.
According to Umar Mohammed, the army spokesperson, Geyi has been a long-standing fixture on the wanted list of various security agencies and is strongly linked to a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating within and around Wukari.
Preliminary investigations have established Geyi’s connection to the abduction of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of Jandei–Kulala, who was kidnapped on November 13, 2025. Alhaji Jano remains in captivity. The troops successfully intercepted a crucial phone call during which Geyi explicitly confirmed the victim was still being held and proceeded to demand the ransom money.
The suspected kidnapper is currently in military custody and undergoing intensive interrogation. The army spokesperson noted that the immediate goal of the questioning is to gather intelligence that will help pinpoint the victim’s location and ultimately aid in a successful rescue operation.
Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their “professionalism and unwavering dedication.” He further reaffirmed the brigade’s resolute commitment to dismantling all criminal and kidnapping networks operating within Taraba State
