President Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after securing an overwhelming 10.9 million votes in the party’s nationwide direct primaries.
The exercise, conducted across the country, saw party members cast their ballots in what APC officials described as one of the largest internal democratic processes in the party’s history.
Tinubu’s landslide victory further cements his grip on the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential race, positioning him as the APC’s flag bearer for a second-term bid amid mounting political realignments and growing opposition mobilisation.
Party leaders hailed the outcome as a reflection of confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and administration, while supporters celebrated the result across several states shortly after the figures were announced.
The primaries come as political parties intensify preparations for the next general election, with analysts predicting a fiercely contested battle for Nigeria’s presidency.
